Xochimilco is famous for its picturesque canals and traditional trajineras (colorful boats). It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site and offers a unique experience to cruise along the canals while enjoying Mexican music, food, and culture.

You can easily reach Xochimilco from the city center by taking an Uber or Didi; we provide the exact meeting instructions and location once you book. We do not recommend using public transportation such as the metro or bus since these take longer and are frequently delayed. Additionally, the particular “Embarcadero” (dock) is not located near any bus stop or metro station.

Xochimilco is open year-round, so you can visit anytime depending on your preference.

During October/November you may see flower fields and preparations for Day of the Dead festivities. During the dry season, which typically runs from November to April, the weather is pleasant, and the canals are less crowded. However, we operate year-round, our tours usually start around midday to get ahead of any afternoon/evening showers.

During the rainy season in Mexico City, June to October, it usually rains after 5pm. We start our tours around midday to get ahead of the rain. If it does rain, the boats have a roof and rain curtains, so the experience is not affected. Showers are usually quick, lasting 20-30 min and then it clears up again.

Our price is per person and depends on which experience you choose (since they offer different things). Check out each individual experience for the latest price. Our experiences last 3 hours. If you are interested in a custom experience the tour duration and price can be negotiated.

There are bathroom stops along the way (every 30-40 min approximately). Keep in mind that bathrooms are rustic and operated by locals, they usually charge 5 pesos each time.

Snacks and lunch are provided, as well as spirits tasting. You can check each experience information to see in further detail what is included in the price.

Additionally, you are allowed to bring any other food and drinks on the trajinera. We will have a cooler with us that you can use to store your items.

Booking in advance is recommended, especially during weekends and holidays when it gets busy. Booking requests made a day or two in advance are not guaranteed, especially for larger groups.

Swimming is not allowed in the Xochimilco canals for safety and environmental reasons. The canals are mainly used for boat rides, and it’s essential to follow safety guidelines and respect the local regulations.

Xochimilco is generally considered safe for tourists. However, like any other tourist destination, it’s essential to stay cautious and be mindful of your belongings. Stick to well-established routes, and if you have any concerns, you can let us know.

Only Mexican Pesos are accepted in Xochimilco. There are no ATM’s in Xochimilco, so bring extra cash for Mariachi’s and other goodies that you might want to buy during the ride (fresh corn, extra beer, etc).

We understand that plans can change, and we want to accommodate our guests as much as possible. Our refund policy for the Xochimilco experience is as follows:

  • Full refunds are available for cancellations made up to 5 days before the scheduled experience. If you decide to cancel your booking within this timeframe, you will receive a complete refund of your payment.
  • Unfortunately, we cannot provide refunds for cancellations made 24 hours before the experience or on the day of the experience. This policy is in place because, at this point, resources and arrangements have been put in place for your visit, and we are unable to fill the vacant spot on short notice.
